I’m curious, if you could trade just one forex pair for the rest of your life, what would your choice be?
Here are some major options:
EUR/USD
GBP/USD
USD/JPY
NZD/USD
CAD/USD
Or do you have a favorite that isn’t listed?

I’d go with USDJPY. I really enjoy trending and swing trades.

Do you base your trades on news or just technical analysis?

I usually check the numbers from the economic calendar and then seek confirmation on the charts.

I agree. In my experience, it’s much easier to find a consistent strategy with USD/JPY than with something like EUR/USD. The downside is that spreads can be a bit higher.

Really? High spreads on USDJPY, one of the most liquid FX pairs?
For my broker Oanda, it’s often around 4 pips for USDJPY and 2 pips for EURUSD. It’s not a huge difference, but it can matter depending on your strategy.
@Adair
That sounds outrageously high for both pairs. Even in the 90s, EURUSD had a spread of just 1 pip. There are many good brokers like Pepperstone, FX Pro, and IC Markets with spreads like 0.1 pip for EURUSD.
@Tate
That’s true, it can vary. It’s not always at 2 and 4.
You can definitely find brokers with lower spreads.
I started with a few and ended back with EUR/USD. Quit listening to all that smart money talk. The EU might be slow, but I believe it has the most stable price action.

GBP/EUR for both of you then.

I prefer the British pound over the Euro.
I choose USDJPY. Its level of volatility suits me well.

I like USDJPY too. Actually, I focus on most of the JPY pairs since they have positive correlations. Lately, I’ve been concentrating on GBPJPY.
I’d go with XAUUSD.
